Hello Again, Old Friends

June 30, 2018 by childlikefascination

It’s been quite a long time. Over 2 years it seems.

In that time I’ve had highs and lows.

I’m still quilting – though not nearly as frequently as I used to.

I’m still running Mini Barn Quits and Quiltalong.net is still online, though until I fix some bugs I cannot add new submissions.

For Quilt Along, all I need to do is find a spare ~45hrs, give or take, to fix the code so it can be something I can sustainably manage going forward. The site needs to be migrated to WordPress so I will be able to have other people help me manage it. I do really love that site; it has value but maybe it’s not value for me; maybe it’s value for the whole and one thing I’ve been re-learning is that I need to ask for help and accept it when people offer.

Mind you, that’s easier said than done when strangers think it okay to send you rude, nasty or snarky emails when your website is out of date, like you owe them something for nothing.

Me + him + the dog have been spending more time in nature now that winter has passed.

The land has been calling to us and
now, we are now listening.

I’ve thought about blogging over the past 2 years. Often wanting to pop back in and write about things that have been weighing on me: burn out, depression, loneliness, growing older, learning how to continue to focus on your career in STEM while society feels like it’s falling in on you and judging you for not having kids and a wedding and cookie cutter house in a cookie cutter neighborhood like everyone else. Especially when none of those things were ever on your list of wants.

More recently I’ve wanted to get back to blogging for much warmer reasons: travel, adventure, sharing my journey though life. I’ve always enjoyed blogging as an outward communication medium. Where, unlike on social media, I can control the format in which I share my words, photos and videos together – it tells the story better.

I’ve been writing code for fun again too, and it’s been nice. The new job has me working on WordPress sites at a local company, which really brightens my soul. I’m actually migrating all my sites to WordPress and a new host so if you see anything that’s broken, don’t worry I’ll probably get around to fixing it sooner or later and hopefully I’ll be back in less than two years with my next update.

With love & light  ❀️

Oh hi! Congrats on the move to WordPress and making a name for yourself. Yes you can do – I DID TOO. I gave some wordcamp talks on this very subject as well. And? I word for Studiopress – the company behind Genesis.

I also have a ladies of WordPress slack channel where some of us hang out if you’d like to join. It’s definitely not stuffy. πŸ˜€

Much love to your Terri Ann. I’ve missed you and definitely welcome you back with whatever you want to share. As for QuiltAlong.net, it is an awesome resource but taking care of you is way more important than updating or maintaining a site. I hope that you keep going on those adventures and I look forward to seeing what you want to share. πŸ™‚

Welcome back. So sorry that people feel that they can be rude and pass judgment on how you live your life. You do YOU and don’t worry about what others think or say (which I know is difficult sometimes). Good luck.

Hopefully you have come to learn that, in life, you just do what you’ve gotta do! And to heck what others think/feel/say. After all, it’s your life πŸ™‚ Glad you can get outdoors and enjoy nature’s beauty!
