This is the first time I’ve done a block of the month and I’m excited that I’m on the ball for the first month (11 more to go!) and phew was it a doozie!
This block is based on a traditional block called Lady of the White House. It’s so neat combining little checkerboards with the pinwheels and the stripes.
It took a lot longer than I expected but it’s also cause I’m accustomed to doing a majority of the cutting for a quilt upfront not on a block-by-block basis. I know my blocks look different than the sample cause I’m using prints in the blocks rather than just using solids but I like how it’s going so far, it feels more me this way.
I put a lot of work into sewing a good scant 1/4″ seam for these blocks and I was able to actually hit the 9.5″ unfinished size (which I’m super proud of). One thing I will pay more attention to in future blocks is how the primary color of the prints come across after having been cut. Join in the with Moccasin BOM with me!
Looks great! I know what you mean about the color of a print piece after being cut, that takes a lot of attention to detail, but can make a huge difference in the long run. I do like how your solid backgrounds balance out the prints, too.
I have been eying this BOM. . . You obviously are using your own fabrics so have not signed up with a fabric shop – did you sign up at the Generation Q web site? Also, do you get the full pattern at once? I don’t know that I would want to wait for a month for instructions for the next block. . . hmmm. . . love this quilt though! I will be watching your progress š
Those are really cool looking blocks. I can see that each of them takes quite a bit of time to make.
Great fabric choices! Your blocks are looking great so far.
Your blocks look really lovely… I think the colour combo is very pretty!
