How is it already the 21st? I have been on vacation since the start of the blog hop and while I’d put together a little project before I left I had hoped to re-make it a bit more polished the day before my date to post but I’ve been terribly motion sick getting rid of my sea legs. When I popped on my computer yesterday I was a bit embarrassed that my project is so small compared to everyone else’s but it’s what I have to show so please don’t be too hard on a newbie!
I sewed up a iced coffee cozy cause with too many quilts in progress I knew I wouldn’t have time to finish another and I prefer to sew things I know I’ll use. I love my hot coffee cozy but as a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee addict in the winter months I always want there to be a way to keep my hand warm while walking to the office.
I plan to make another and perfect the pattern a bit better cause I think other people would probably like to make some for themselves.
It’s a pretty simple QAYG construction using Kona Berry (#1016), Kona Buttercup (#1056), Kona Grass Green (#1703) and Kona Turquoise (#1376). I cut open an iced coffee cup then added my seam allowances. From that size I cut a piece of Insul-Bright batting and started sewing on strips of my Kona solids.
I don’t seem to have the photos of the last steps where I sewed a backing, then clipped the corners and turned it inside out to the top stitch (poorly I know) the end with the elastic. There has to be a better way to finish these, I’m glad the size I used perfectly butted up cause the overlap would have been too bulky.
I hope to spend more time perfecting this new pattern in 2014 and to brighten up my morning coffee with more solid projects.
I rarely do solid projects cause I love a sassy print but this was a fun challenge!
Today’s other Sunrise & Sunset blog hop participants:
Do visit the other sewists and cheer them on! I promise for my next blog hop I’ll aim a bit higher and not pick a time when I’m so busy. Christmas quilts, holidays and birthdays galore in Dec/January, a Quilt of Valor to bind and a cruise to the Caribbean with my friends plus that pesky full time job thing lead to significant loss of sewing hours! Sigh…
What a great idea and a perfect hand warmer! Thank you for sharing.
Great idea. I need to make myself a few of these. What a colorful start to the morning.
I love to use insulbrite…quilts easily and you tutorial is so cute. crystalbluern at onlineok dot com
Thanks for the tutorial!
Cute cozy…so much better than those cardboard ones! Thanks for sharing 🙂
I love the mug holder. Well done
Your mug holder is a very good idea. Thanks for sharing.
It may be small, but the colors are beautiful. I love it!
Love this cozy…great for hot or cold drinks, and Kona colours make it absolutely beautiful! Cool little project! We coffee drinkers know a good thing when we see one LOL
Thanks for sharing your great project
Very cute project! Thanks for the tutorial.
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial. I think I can make one of these. What a great idea! I hope you soon get your legs back under you! Thanks for participating and being a great inspiration.
Very colorful, a nice, cheerful cozy to help brighten a cold day.
You have pretty hands lol And a warm thought came from this….don’t be afraid to put your best forward, you just never know who will be there to cheer you on!
I love the tutorial. I never would have thought of quilt as you go but little projects are perfect for “birthing vs. binding” methods. Such a great idea! Oh, your thingee up there did not recognize my blog url as an actual url, so I deleted it.

You chose the perfect colours! Love that stitch and flip method. Your cozy is cute and keeps your fingers from getting frosty…. Great job!

REally like how this came out! Looking forward to your tutorial as I would love to give these cozies a try.
What a great little coffee cozy! The bright colors will help you wake up in the morning. It’s really pretty! Great job!
Fun, fun, fun! I have been meaning to make a few of these. Perhaps this is just the inspiration I need to get started!
Another ice addict here. 🙂 I drink iced chai tea lattes all year round – love them from Starbucks but can’t afford that very often so I make my own. That cozy would be perfect for cold winter days! blessings, marlene
I love your coffee cozy! It looks so cool in stripes.
Cute. I like the angled row of colors.
Cute color choices. svonfumetti at yahoo dot com
I think your cup holder/hand warmer is a terrific way to brighten your day! No one said the projects have to be big or that you need to have more than one! You’ve done a fabulous job and a nice little tutorial to boot! Thank you for joining in the fun 🙂
Your coffee holder is really cute. Get better soon.
No project is too small for our hops and just having you a part of it makes my day so much nicer. I love the sew-as-you-go method you used for your wrap and the angles are great…nice job! Wonderful choice of Kona colors, too! Thanks for hopping with us and I hope your sea legs are better soon. :O)
This is pretty cool! I can see this being very popular with a lot of people I know, so yeah, I look forward to seeing a pattern. I like the elastic over the button, maybe you could do two buttons one above the other, so it will hold the sides together a bit more evenly/securely. And this is such a great way to use up scraps too! Thank you for sharing your project!

What a great idea. I do not drink iced coffee but instead hot coffee. That would work great. Thanks for sharing.
I, too, like to make things that are useful. That cozy for the winter months was a great idea – I like my iced coffee all year! What about leaving the opeing along the bottom edge and sewing in the elastic while your sewing the sandwich together? I think that way the opening wouldn’t show quite as much and putting in the elastic might even be easier.

A fun little project and thanks for the tutorial!
That’s such a good idea. I’ve thought about protecting my hand from hot drinks, but you’re right that cold drinks when the weather is already cold are not something I want to hold onto. I love the colors that you put together; grass green is currently one of my favorite shades of Kona.
cute cup cozy! Thanks for the tutorial.
