So this past weekend was GREAT for me! Saturday I went to my very first quilt guild meeting and finally got to talk quilting with others like me. I’ve subsequently joined the Boston Modern Quilt Guild. There’s a couple other quilt guilds that meet a bit closer to where I live but I know my style and aesthetic is more towards modern quilting so I thought that they’d be a better fit. I’m so excited too push myself to get to every meeting and have something new to show each time! The meetup was at this great quilt shop I’ve never been to before, Quilters Way. The selection is much wider than my local shop but it’s about 35 minutes from home. They do long arm lessons and offer rental time on their long arm machine which has piqued my interest but only if my spring time “big plans” fall through which I truly hope they don’t. I picked up more fabric (of course) while I was there. A colorful print to add to my stash for the future HST quilt of doom and a low volume print for the penny patch quilt along and fabric to make a gender neutral baby quilt for a pregnant friend.
After the guild meeting I went pumpkin carving with my friends. I had the quilts in the back seat and had brought my camera so while I was waiting for my friends to show up at her aunts house with the pizza I took some photos of the quilts on her aunts property. I live in a small apartment building that abuts the highway so having Aunt Lisa’s beautiful rural property at my fingertips was a dream. She’s totally going to wake up on Sunday mornings and find me photographing all my quilts there from now on. I shot my first quilt ever as well as one of the x-mas ones. I’m going to try and get that post about the first quilt I ever made up tomorrow!
I’m also behind on my blogging about the stars in the solstice star quilt along. I’m actually done with all the stars and working on finishing piecing the front (whoops short on fabric!) so hopefully I’ll get those up soon!
Works in Progress:
- Solstice Star Quilt
- Queen Terrain
To Do:
- Finish basting hexagons (24 left) for solstice stars and start piecing them together!
- Pickup fabric & batting to finish piecing and basting solstice stars
- Finish sashing on queen terrain, cut and attach the border
- Cut binding for 2 quilts at the longarm
- Start gender neutral baby quilt
And I almost forgot but I’m putting together my Halloween costume for the party at my favorite bar this Friday. I have my top but I need ot make a tutu and do some gluing and feathering to finish the costume. Got 3 nights to do it, tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday! Yikes, gotta get going on that!
That’s all for my Monday re-cap!
Hope to see you back at a meeting soon!!!!
Thanks Sara! I hope to make it to the Feb meeting but it’s the day after a friend’s 30th birthday celebration so we’ll see about that š
